Reflection Task 2a

SACRED

I will mention you about “Sacred” which is my favourite computer game ! Sacred is a role-playing game, however, I think it is quite different from other RPGs. Now I will explain why I think it is different and why I like the game so much. Firstly, it  has an interesting story. The game goes in a magical place called “Ancaria” and lots of amazing missions wait for the heroes.

·
There are 6 different characters we can choose to play with : Gladiator, Wood Elf, Vampiress, Battle-Mage and Seraphim. I will not introduce them all to you because I don’t know all them very well. I generally play with Seraphim, who is an angel-like hero. She is quite beautiful and has lots of magical talents.

There are lots of obstacles like woods, seas or cliffs that keeps the player from going forward to fulfill the missions, but some magical transition points appear sometimes and beam you to quite distant places where you want to go. Below, there is an image of them.

During the game, you can get numerous missions because this is really an enormous game and it keeps quite a big space in computer. So, what kind of missions do we have ?! I will write as many as I can remember. Firstly, there are important ones like to clean an area from aliens, thieves, wild animals or to save the daughter of a nobleman from some bad situations like kidnapping etc, and you get some rewards of course. Moreover, there are some weird missions like saving the sheeps of a shepherd from wolves, or finding the the lost doll of a little girl or reviving a dead lover in depths of caves filled with zombies !

As for the enemies of heroes, there are a lot kinds of them ; goblins – easy to kill creatures, and they say funny words while they die-, witches, giants, enormous spiders, thieves , zombies, wild animals, mummies etc.

Apart from the enemies, there are lots of characters in the game that make it splendid. There are pretty villagers who likes or don’t like the hero, and if they don’t they say it on the face of the hero fearlessly. I think it is quite funny and realistic. There are children who sometimes stick around the hero and they say somethig cheerful by laughing or insults the hero, but the point is, the hero cannot hurt them no matter what. In villages, there are musicians playing in the squares, jugglers amusing people and it is enjoyable to talk with them. I would like to talk about the end of the game finally but unfortunately I have never managed it and I did not search for it because I will find out that myself one day.

Reflection Task 2b

CAPITALISM

My topic is "capitalism" and I chose a short animation movie about capitalism. In the video people are used for lots of purposes like tables, cabs, cloakrooms, traffic lights and even doormats. During the video, people's looks are sleepy and indifferent. They are just doing their works. I think the videomaker wants to emphasize that how we are indifferent to people and things around us and that we only live to be living. Everybody is sleepy and nobody is aware of the harms of this capitalist system. My perspective is also the same as the videomaker's. I generally like the video and unfortunately I agree with the ideas of the videomaker's. I chose this video and I think it is important because, although it is difficult to realize for we even can not find time to think, this system is turning our lives into a hell and there should be something to make the world a better place.

Reflection Task 1b

A Band Which is Not Famous

"Gevende" means musician in southeast of Turkey, and a band from Eskişehir formed in 2000 decided to call themselves with this word. The type of the music Gevende makes is psychedelic folk or folk rock and jazz music listeners may also like them. Their first album "EV" was launched in 2006 and in the same year, the band performed lots of concerts in Turkey, Nepal, Pakistan, Iran and Netherlands. During the Sound Painting project in 2008, they shared the same stage with the worldwide known French band "Balbazar". They improved themselves a lot and launched their second album "Sen Balık Değilsi Ki" in 2011. Although the band is not known much because it has a different style that is not in demand in Turkey, I think somebody will realize this talent and they will get what they deserve.

writing an acrostic task

Yesterday, I saw a man walking desperately
On the sidewalk where I shuttle everyday
Up in the sky, a sad grey
And the wind flied his grayish hair
Repeating a song in my head
Elaborated streets with lots of colorful leaves
Began a rain
Every little drop was so pure
And the man smiled
Up in the sky
There were millions of little drops
Inside them, two little birds trying to fly
Finally we came eye to eye
Up in the sky grey clouds, but,
Little smiles on our faces.

Reflection Task 1a

I am Deniz. I am a 19 years old university student in METU and my department is English Language Teaching. Although I study teaching, I don't want to be a teacher. If I can, I am going to be an interpreter or a research assistant. That is why I want to improve myself by watching some series in English or interviews or some talkings that attracts me. As for my hobbies, I do not have many of them. I was in an Ultimate Frisbee team last year but I gave it up because I realized that I am not created for team sports unfortunately, so I am planning to start ice skating next term. Moreover,  I am playing guitar a little bit but I haven't improved myself. In fact, I would like to be able to sing rather than playing guitar, but I do not know If I am going to do anything about it. Meanwhile; Tom Waits, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen are among my favourite singers. I have always been curious about the universe and the sky photos have always impressed me, so I have recently joined the Amateur Astronomy Comunity in METU where I think I can learn something and have some good time. I am not interested in paintings but I have a favourite painter whose name is Daniel Danger and I am going to append some of his works at the end of my writing. One of the things I dislike is insects. I disgust them, however I have not killed even one fly till today. The second thing is the noise of gum cheawing. It drives me crazy. Moreover, I do not like waking up early and my handwriting either and that is all I will tell you about me.

FLE 133 CONTEXTUAL GRAMMAR EXERCISES ON PARALLELISM

#1:  Our beagle loves to hunt.  When someone opens the back door for her, he barrels down porch steps into the yard.  She runs back and forth across the lawn in ecstasy.  Her nose cruises the wet grass for smells of cats, rabbits, and she sniffs other presences too subtle for human detection.  She spins her tail in quick circles firstly clockwise, then  counterclockwise.  Sniffing and spinning always occur together and they seem to propel her along.

#The Government Printing Office in Washington D.C., which few people know about, is a source of much useful information.   It is the official publishing house for the federal government which publishes pamphlets and books on a vast number of subjects that range from the dangers of X-rays from home TV sets to the identification of mushrooms.  About 27,000 publications are offered through the Superintendent of Documents,  many of which are inexpensive and there is no charge at all for some.

#2: The man who reaped America’s first fortune was John Jacob Astor who was a German immigrant.  He made his initial money trading Indian furs. For he was lowborn and uneducated, Astor never learned to speak English properly.  He carried on his business to the end in an accent that was redolent of the Hamburg gutters.

"Imagine"

Imagine the ghosts are real.
It's horrible even if you just think
Lots of zombies below us
Above us only dark sky
Imagine all the people
Rushing around scared
Imagine there is no place to run
It isn't easy to sleep
Nothing to hide behind or no one to save you
And no sunlight too
Imagine all the people
Rushing around scared

You may say I'm a psycho
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll believe me
And the world will see the reality

Imagine no nightlight near
Now sleep if you can
No need for zombies or ghosts
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Rushing around scared

You may say I'm a psycho
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will see the reality.
